The working principle of RFID antenna is based on radio communication technology, through which the antenna receives and radiates electromagnetic wave signals to realize the wireless reading and writing of the information stored in the tag. Specifically, RFID antenna is a device that transmits and receives RF carrier signals. Under the condition that the operating frequency and bandwidth are determined, the antenna transmits the RF carrier generated by the RF processing module and receives the RF carrier emitted or reflected from the tag.

These RF carrier signals are the basis for RFID system to realize wireless identification and data exchange.

RFID antenna's main functions mainly include:

 

Transmit signals: RFID antenna is responsible for the reader generated RF signals in the form of electromagnetic waves emitted. These signals carry specific instructions and energy, used to activate and communicate with Rfid Tags. Different frequency RFID system, the antenna transmits the signal wavelength is different. The design and performance of the antenna directly affects the strength and directionality of the transmitted signals. A well-designed antenna can focus the signal in a specific direction, improving signal coverage and transmission efficiency.

 

Receive signals: when the RFID tag receives the signal transmitted by the reader, it will be through its own antenna will respond to the signal back to the reader. RFID antenna is responsible for receiving these signals from the tag, and will be transmitted to the reader for processing. Antenna receiving sensitivity and anti-interference ability to accurately receive the tag signal is critical. How to choose the right RFID antenna

1.frequency selection

 

RFID systems typically operate in three frequency bands: low frequency (LF), high frequency (HF) and ultra-high frequency (UHF). When selecting an antenna, you must first determine which frequency band your RFID system will use.

Select an antenna based on the application scenario. For example, if used in a warehouse, a long range read antenna may be required; while in small item tracking, a short range antenna may be more appropriate.

3.Antenna gain

 

The gain of the antenna affects the signal strength and reading distance. High gain antenna can read tags at a longer distance, but the radiation direction map may be narrower; low gain antenna is suitable for close reading.

 

4.Antenna type

 

Planar antenna: suitable for reading tags on flat objects.

Circular polarization antenna: applicable to the label direction is not certain, can improve the success rate of reading.

Linear polarization antenna: suitable for known label direction.

5.Installation method

 

-Consider the installation method of the antenna (such as fixed, mobile, embedded, etc.), to ensure that the antenna can work effectively in the actual application.

 

6.Environmental factors

 

Consider the environment in which the antenna will be used (e.g., temperature, humidity, chemical substances, etc.), and select appropriate materials and designs to ensure the durability of the antenna.

 

7.Tag Type

 

Different types of tags (e.g. passive tags, active tags) may have different requirements for the antenna. Make sure the antenna is compatible with the tag being used.

 

8.Reading Range

 

Select the antenna according to the required reading distance, use higher gain antenna for long distance reading and lower gain antenna for short distance reading.

 

9.Cost

 

Choose an antenna that fits your budget. High-performance antennas are usually more expensive, but may be a necessary investment in some applications.
