RFID technology is indispensable to empower smart manufacturing industry

2024-11-04

A complete RFID system uses RFID technology for automatic object identification, data collection and transmission. It usually consists of a computer system, RFID reader and writer, and RFID electronic tags. Among them, the computer system includes PC or PLC and other controllers, and even WMS, MES, ERP and other systems at the user's site, which are used to receive information fed back by the RFID reader. The RFID reader/writer is mainly composed of a wireless transceiver module, an antenna, a control module and an interface circuit. It is used to complete the writing and reading of information in RFID electronic tags. It is a key data collection terminal in the RFID system. The core components of the RFID electronic tag are the RFID tag antenna and tag chip, which are data carriers used to mark objects to be traced. Data information is recorded in it and can read and write interact with the RFID reader.

In industrial scenarios, there are many field-level devices that require networking and data collection. However, among all field devices, although PLC, robots, automation equipment, etc. can communicate and transmit data with the host system through their own communication interfaces and protocols, there are also some objects (such as cutting tools, workpieces, raw materials, production equipment, etc.) Semi-finished or finished products, pallets of materials, etc.) do not themselves have communication capabilities, but they are equally important and even more numerous. In order to allow these objects to communicate with the upper-level system and achieve data collection, RFID industry tag can be marked on these objects or assets.

In this way, RFID technology can be used for automatic identification and data collection, and these assets can be transformed into smart objects, which can store and transmit information such as surrounding environment, storage status, location, etc. to the upper-level information management system, so that enterprises can The production chain and supply chain can be made transparent and accurately traced, so that companies can use this information to analyze and mine and make more accurate and scientific decisions.

In the industrial field, RFID technology, as an important data collection technology, is one of the key technologies for intelligent manufacturing and Industry 4.0. It is also the key to improving efficiency, ensuring quality, and realizing intelligent industry. This is because data collection is the foundation for realizing intelligent manufacturing and Industry 4.0, and automatic identification is the core technology of data collection. Together, they form an important bridge to intelligent manufacturing.

The reasons for using RFID technology in IoT systems are as follows:

01. Automation and efficiency of data collection

RFID technology allows identification and data exchange without direct contact with items, which greatly improves the efficiency and accuracy of data collection. It can also obtain the identity information, location information and status information of items in real time to ensure the timeliness and accuracy of data.

02. Enhance security and traceability of IoT systems

RFID technology can ensure the traceability of items from production to consumption through real-time collection of data. It can also be combined with encryption technology to improve the security of IoT systems. Protect the data in industrial RFID tags through encryption, prevent data leakage and illegal access, and ensure the stable operation of the Internet of Things system.

03. Promote the intelligent upgrade of IoT systems

The RFID module is deeply integrated with other technologies in the Internet of Things (such as cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence, etc.) to jointly promote the intelligent upgrade of the Internet of Things system. Based on the data collected by RFID technology, the IoT system can provide enterprises with more accurate and efficient management decision support.

04. Adapt to complex environments and application scenarios

RFID technology has a wide range of application scenarios in IoT systems and can work in various harsh environments. For example, in humid, high or low temperature environments, RFID harsh tag can still work normally to ensure stable data transmission.
